CIOR President visits NATO school in Oberammergau


Invited by NATO school in Oberammergau, Major-General (rtd) Georges Lebel, chairman of  NRFC and Commander (French naval reserve) Richard Roll, CIOR President  presented their respective organisations to the senior reserve officers’ course.

Regarding CIOR, President Roll successively dealt with CIOR purpose, objectives and modes of action as well as  the commitments of the French Presidency of CIOR 2012 – 2014. He particularly emphasized the following points:


•    CIOR is an international forum for best practices and exchange of views,
•    CIOR is a training and development provider for reserve (face 2 face and online),
•    CIOR is both pulse and catalyst on defence matters and defence spirit.

As regards the commitments of the French presidency, he reminded the audience of:

•   His commitment to preserve the identity of CIOR, composed of associations of volunteers, supported by their respective national defence ministries ;

•    His wish to produce content with a particular focus on themes of collective resilience and crisis management ;

•    The necessary consistency of CIOR work with Alliance priorities: smart defence, employer support, connected forces initiatives ;

•    The importance to communicate with and reach out to our stakeholders through improved access to documents via « CIOR 2.0 » ;

•    The urge to develop cooperation with NATO IMS / Military Committee and the two strategic commands of the Alliance, as well as  with NRFC, focusing on complementarities.
