CIOR Language Academy 2014 - Lozen, Bulgaria

On August 11th , at the Bulgarian Red Cross training center – Lozen, in the vicinities of Sofia (Bulgaria), the regular activities of the 2014 CIOR Language academy started.
 
49 reservists of 12 countries take part in it.This is the thirs CIOR Language academy to take place in Bulgaria for the past 10 years.
 
CIOR President Lt.Col. (R) DimitarPopov, NRFC Chairman Commodore Kiril Mihaylov and CIOR Secretary general Col. (R) Todor Sertov attended the official opening ceremony.
 
The CLA Director Capt. (US Navy reserve) David Epstein opened the ceremony with an address to the Academy students, the hosts and the guests amongst which were the Mayor of Lozen and representatives of the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense.
 
Commodore Mihaylov ( Chairman of NRFC) read the address on behalf of Mr. Velizar Shalamanov – Minister of Defense of Bulgaria and on behalf of Vice-admiral Rumen Nikolov – Chief of Defense of Bulgaria.
 
The Chairman of the ROA of Bulgaria, Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Stoyan Topalov greeted the students on behalf of the Bulgarian hosts. The ceremony ended with a concert of the Representative musical and dancing group of the Bulgarian armed Forces.
 
During their free days, teachers and students of the CLA visited the Bulgarian medieval capital – Veliko Tarnovo, where the met the Head of the National Military University, Brigadier Todor Dochev. He had a meeting with Capt. (Navy) Epstein and he informed the guests with the historic background and the tasks of the University.
 
Capt. (Navy) David Epstein met also the Chairman of the City council of Veliko Tarnovo who highly appreciated the activities of the CLA .The importance of the Presidency of CIOR, taken over by Bulgaria for the term 2014-2016 was underlined. The Bulgarian reserve officer Lt. Col. Dimitar Popov officially stepped in as CIOR President at a ceremony during the CIOR Summer congress in Fulda, Germany, carried out on August 8th.
 
During the last two days of their education , part of the CLA students will hold an exam in English at Georgi Rakovski Military Academy as per STANAG 6001
 
At the same time in Lozen Training Center the exams in French will be held.
 
The CLA certificates will be presented on August 22nd at the Central Military Club in Sofia.
 
The event will be closed on the same day by CIOR President Lt. Col. (R) Dimitar Popov.
