A Fatal accident in CIOR Summer Congress

A Netherlands retired reserve colonel died during a combat casualty care exercise at the CIOR Summer Congress on Friday 30 June, as a result of a tragic accident. 

The accident occurred during a medical training exercise in Santahamina, Helsinki on Friday 30 June around 9:30 a.m., as a result of which he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The next of kin of the deceased have been contacted.

Helsinki Police is investigating the incident. The organizers of the event and the Finnish Defence Forces are supporting the investigation.

Crisis counseling has been arranged for the people present at the incident.

The organizers of the event, CIOR, CIOMR and Finnish Reserve Officers’ Federation express their deepest condolences.

CIOR President met with Estonian Military Representative in NATO to discuses NATO's new Reserve Forces Policy

Following the Military Committee in Permanent Session on 25 Jan 24, it was agreed that IMS Policy & Capabilities (P&C) Division would initiate a project to revitalise the Alliance approach to Reserve and Reserve Forces. Initially, this will take the form of reinstating the NATO Policy on Reserves including a review of current MC documents related to affiliated Reserve organisations.
