CIOR mourns the passing of Lt Col Nils Drews

23.08.2026
CIOR has received the sad news of the passing of Lt Col Nils Drews (Germany), immediate past President of CIOMR and a longstanding and highly respected member of the international reserve community.
Lt Col Drews dedicated many years to the work of CIOMR, serving in several committee positions before most recently leading the organisation with the German Presidency. Throughout his service, he demonstrated a strong commitment to international cooperation and to strengthening the role and community of medical reserve officers across NATO nations.
Beyond his professional contribution, Nils will be remembered by colleagues and friends across CIOMR and CIOR for his charisma, humour and ability to bring people together. He built strong friendships across national and organisational boundaries, and his contribution to CIOMR leaves a lasting legacy.
CIOR stands together with our colleagues in CIOMR at this difficult time.
On behalf of the CIOR Presidency and the entire CIOR community, we extend our deepest condolences to Nils’ family, friends and colleagues.
Lt Col Nils Drews will be greatly missed, but his contribution and legacy will be remembered.
